More About Gideon
Gideon Hanekom is a highly experienced performance psychology consultant and mental skills coach specializing in the development of elite athletes.
With over a decade of applied experience working with professional and emerging sports talent, Gideon brings a unique blend of academic expertise, competitive insight, and practical application to the world of psychological skills training.
He holds postgraduate qualifications in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Massey University and has spent more than 11 years serving as the Mental Skills Coach for Northland Rugby Union (NPC), where he worked across senior men’s, women’s, and academy programs.
His responsibilities included team-wide psychological skills training, one-on-one performance coaching, and the creation of tailored mental training resources to help athletes perform under pressure, build resilience, and sustain high performance.
A lifelong athlete himself, Gideon has represented New Zealand at Masters level in track and field, where he still holds multiple regional sprinting records.
He is also a committed martial artist, holding a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Gideon’s work is built on a core philosophy: physical preparation alone is no longer enough.
In a competitive world where talent is everywhere, mental mastery is what separates good athletes from great ones.
His mission is to equip athletes with the practical psychological tools they need to gain the edge—on and off the field.
